NEWPORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - The West Canada football team defeated Pulaski 35-20 in the Section III Class D quarterfinals Saturday, meaning the Indians will face defending champ Westmoreland in the semis next week.
Pulaski kept it close on Saturday, with West Canada up just 21-20 at the half and in the fourth quarter. But touchdown runs from Ryan Moody and NEWSChannel 2 Athlete of the Week Ryan Grogan, as well as a key stop by the Indian defense on a 4th and 2, clinched the win in the fourth.
The Devils took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, but West Canada then scored the next two touchdowns. Up 14-6 in the second, Pulaski tied it on a long score from Thomas Talpin to Travis Purdy.
Moody and Grogan connected on a 44 yard TD pass to give the Indians another lead, but Pulaski pulled within one before halftime.
Moody scored four times, three of which were short runs, gaining 143 yards through the air and on the ground. Grogan had 195 yards on the ground in addition to his 44 on the TD reception in the second.
