Poland girls win title, Oneida football going to final


In Saturday's high school playoff action, the Poland girls soccer team won their second straight section title, while the Oneida football team advanced to the final next week at the Carrier Dome.

The Indians beat top seeded Homer 31-9 in the Section III Class B semis, advancing to their third final in four years.  Oneida will meet Cazenovia at the Dome Sunday, November 10th at 3 p.m.

In the Section III Class D girls soccer final from SUNY Cortland, the Lady Tornadoes topped Copenhagen 4-2 to reach the regionals.  Last season Poland not only won the section title, but also their first ever state title.  Mikayla Blumenstock had two goals, while Kara Morrison added a goal and an assist.

The Little Falls girls, who won the C-1 title Wednesday, fell 1-0 in the Overall C Final to Beaver River.

In Saturday's Field Hockey Finals, Morrisville-Eaton dropped a 4-1 decision to Cazenovia in the C/D Final, while Camden fell 2-1 to ES-M in the B Final.

The other football team from the Mohawk Valley, Notre Dame, came close to winning their Class C semifinal game, but fell just short, 35-33 against General Brown.
