UC football camp a big success again

By MIKE LEVIN

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Football season is right around the corner and all this week, Utica College has been hosting a camp for kids aged 7-14 in the afternoon, and high schoolers in the evening.  The high school camps features 11 teams, including Waterville, Sherburne-Earlville, VVS, Canastota, Little Falls, Westmoreland, Mount Markham, New Hartford, Holland Patent, the new Central Valley Acadmeny, a combined team from Oriskany and Whitesboro, as well as a squad of players made up from several schools including Sauquoit Valley and Notre Dame, known as "Team UC."

Over 300 campers between the two sessions have been taking part in the camps, during which each team is assigned a UC coach to teach the Pioneers' system and help them improve as players.

According to UC head coach Blaise Faggiano, there are a record number of players at this year's camp.

"It's a win-win," says Faggiano.  "Having all these high schools on our campus, their parents are in the stands watching them scrimmage, having them in our facilities, our field turf, the end of the night we get the lights on, the chance to have one of the coaches from our staff speak to the campers, Bob Jones tonight will do a great job.  Give them something that can make them better people.  It's a great atmosphere, all the other sports, football's coming soon."

High school training camps officially open on Monday, August 19th, with the first games here in the Mohawk Valley set for Friday, September 6th.  UC's players will be on campus by August 14, with the first practices on the 15th.
