LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Little Falls girls basketball team has been through a lot this season and not just on the court.
The Lady Mounties are a perfect 11-0 this season and are hoping to make a return trip to the Carrier Dome for the Class C Section Finals. This is a team that followed up a win at the Dome in 2012 and a trip to the State Final Four with another berth in the Section Final last year, when they fell short against Cooperstown.
But while head coach Pam Munger's team is taking care of business on the court, they've been doing it as of late one girl short. That's because Sarah Bruins recently began a battle with cancer and will miss the rest of the season.
However, the Lady Mounties have been there as Sarah begins her fight, along with not only the community of Little Falls, but the surrounding towns as well.
"It's been overwhelming," says Bruins. "So many people, teams have called Ms. Munger, wanting to do fundraiser, buy t-shirts, the Frankfort team sent me a card. It's awesome to have this kind of support and that the rivalry between us hasn't come in the way of this."
While she goes through chemotherapy, Bruins has been supporting her team back, lending emotional support.
"By her just being here on a day like today at practice, that really helps them," says Coach Munger. "I feel very lucky to be a part of this group. Down the road when we're all looking back and Sarah is healthy and they have a life of their own, this is something they're never going to forget."
Little Falls will be back in action Friday, when they visit Cooperstown.
