Top seeded Spartans toss CBA aside

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - The defending Division II state hockey champions from New Hartford made a statement in their playoff opener, beating CBA 5-1 in the Section Quaterfinals Friday night.  Five different Spartans scored in the victory, including League MVP Clayton Whittemore, as well as Alex Fukes, who had a goal and two assists for New Hartford.

Dan Sheets and Tom Nitti had the team's first two goals in the first period, while Eric Fitzgerald had the team's third goal, in the second.  Whittemore scored with just seven seconds to go in the period, to give the Spartans a 4-1 lead heading into the second intermission.  Fukes iced the game with his goal in the third.

New Hartford advances to the Section III Semifinals, where they will meet Division II East rival RFA Wednesday night.
