WKTV - On an interesting night of scheduling, rivals New Hartford and Whitesboro met in hockey, as well as boys and girls basketball, with New Hartford winning two of the three: 2-1 in hockey and 59-49 in boys basketball. Whitesboro's lone win of the night was in girls basketball, 62-37.
On the ice, the two rivals traded goals in the first period, with Jack Mercurio scoring for Whitesboro and Mike Rich scoring for New Hartford. Tom Mandel scored the go ahead goal in the second period.
Mike Cuchiarale had 21 saves for the Spartans (7-4-1), while Joe Tartaglia had 18 for the Warriors (3-10-1).
In boys basketball, the Spartans jumped out to a 16-6 lead after one quarter, then 35-15 at the half. But the Warriors (9-3) came back in the fourth, outscoring their rivals 27-16. Luke Moore of the Warriors had the game high, with 19 points. Jordan Henderson led New Hartford (11-2) with 16.
In girls basketball, Jen Deuel had the Whitesboro (9-2) high, with 15 points, as did Amy Evans, who led the Lady Spartans.
