NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A second-half defensive shutout and just enough timely offense proved to be a winning combination for the New Hartford boys lacrosse team Thursday as the home Spartans edged the visiting Spartans of East Syracuse-Minoa 6-5 in overtime.
Trailing 5-3 both at halftime and entering the fourth quarter, New Hartford scored two goals to tie the game with 7:01 left. Jake Silberlicht then scored the game-winning goal with 2:54 remaining in the first overtime from the top left corner.
Goalie Pat Alcott finished with 11 saves while Jamie Stuhlinger scored two goals and Silberlicht, Andrew Kelleher and Jason Fitzgerald each notched a goal and an assist.
New Hartford moves to 3-1 overall; ES-M is 2-3.
The home Spartans led 3-2 after the first quarter, then the visiting Spartans outscored New Hartford 3-0 in the second to take the lead. But thanks to New Hartford's defense, ES-M would not score again.
