Hamlin to make Sitrin Wheelchair Hoops return

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Remsen native and Olympic Bronze Medalist Erin Hamlin will be among the participants at the 12th Annual Sitrin Celebrity Classic Wheelchair Basketball Game Thursday.  The first ever US Olympian to receive an individual medal in the luge, Hamlin returns to event after a year hiatus.

Also returning, on the Sitrin team, is US Paralympic Wheelchair Curler Jimmy Joseph, from New Hartford.  Joseph and the Sitrin team always dominate the event, but the celebrity team is hoping their most star studded team ever might turn that around.

Joining Hamlin will be Syracuse Basketball seniors C.J. Fair and Baye Keita, ultimate fighter Matt "The Hammer" Hamill, illusionists Leon Etienne and Romy Low of "America's Got Talent" fame, UC Men's Hockey Head Coach Gary Heenan, WKTV's Steve McMurray and Kristen Copeland, KISS-FM's Sean "S-Dot" Morrelle and Gary "Big Poppa" Spears, NY State Senator Joe Griffo, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri and many more celebs from the Mohawk Valley.

The Clark Athletic Center at Utica College will once again host the event Thursday at 6:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, while children under five get in for free.  To order in advance, call (315) 737-2406.

Proceeds from the event support the Sitrin STARS program, which provides people with physical disabilities with opportunities to compete in a variety of sports including basketball, golf, paddling, curling, road racing and skiing.
