MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - New Hartford regained the Sparrior Cup Tuesday, beating rival Whitesboro 14-3 in thirteenth installment of the annual boys lacrosse series. The two teams play twice during the season, with the second game each year designated as the cup game.
In Tuesday's matchup on a rainy, windy and cold afternoon at the Ed Wadas Complex on the campus of Whitesboro High School, the Spartans were led by the Ondrako twins, who combined for nine total goals.
Jesse scored the first two of his five goals in the first quarter, with brother Joe getting his first of four with 8.9 seconds to go in that same quarter. Connor Nelson also scored in the first to put NH up 4-0 after one.
They got two more in the second to take a 6-0 halftime lead. Whitesboro (0-10) finally scored in the third period, but the Spartans added five more to go up 11-1 after three quarters.
New Hartford is now 7-2 this season, but also leads the overall Sparrior Cup series 9-4.
