Girls Soccer: Chazy comeback sinks Remsen in semis
CORTLAND, N.Y. (WKTV) - A return trip to the Class D state semis ended in heartbreak for the Remsen girls soccer team, as Chazy came back to tie the score 3-3 at the end of regulation, then went on to win 3-1 in penalty kicks. The two teams also played two ten minute overtime periods as well as two five minute golden goal periods before going to PKs.
Erin O'Connor scored all three goals for the Lady Rams, the first just over three minutes in, the second five minutes into the second half and the third with under 25 minutes to go in regulation.
Christina Emery scored the Eagles' first equalizer, nine minutes after O'Connor's first goal, as well as the second, with 10:03 to go in the second. Hannah Laurin hit the heartbreaker for Remsen, beating keeper Megan Will with just 50 seconds to go.
Chazy hit three of their first four goals in penalty kicks, while Remsen needed a goal by Courtney Taylor to hang on. Unfortunately for the Rams, her shot hit the cross bar, then the upright, and sailed over the net. Although the officials didn't immediately signal a miss and the end of the game, that was the final play.
Remsen finishes the season at 18-1, with their second straight trip to the Final Four.
