WHITESBORO, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Whitesboro softball team earned its second win of the season over rival New Hartford, 6-4 on Thursday. The Warriors scored four runs in the first inning and held off the Spartans for the win.
Whitesboro (6-2, 5-1 TVL) got their first run on a two base throwing error that brought Allie Webb home. Later in the inning, Brie Heitz scored on an RBI double by Jen Deuel. Two batters later, Elena Ciccarelli knocked in Deuel and Brittany Pogoda with a double.
The Warriors added another run in the second inning when Sarah Beck launched a triple over the center fielder's head that brought Heitz in for the second time in the game.
New Hartford (8-3, 3-3 TVL) started to chip away in the third when Erin Donovan's fielder's choice brought Krista Pristera (3-for-4 on the game) to the plate. Two batters later, Mikelle Deck grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Danielle Witchley.
The Spartans would add another run in the sixth, but Whitesboro answered with one in the bottom of the inning. New Hartford would add one more in the seventh, but ultimately fell short.
The Spartans got ten hits in the game, while also committing one error. Whitesboro had seven hits and three errors.
Pogoda earned the win to improve her record this season to 4-1. Bianca Pavia took the loss.
