MOHAWK, N.Y. (WKTV) - Steve Shaver rushed for 91 yards on 15 carries Friday night, but Mohawk fell for the second straight time on their new field, 30-13 to Port Byron. The game's first score featured an interesting play for the Mohicans, an interception by Carson Murphy that became a touchdown for Hunter Watkins.
In the first quarter, with Mohawk trying to get their offense going, Murphy went back to pass and looked for Watkins on a long route, but was picked off by Vince Giannettino. However, Watkins immediately ripped the ball out of Giannettino's hands and raced the other way for the score.
Mohawk looked as if they would take control of the game after Justyn Krowicki recovered a Port Byron fumble, but the Mohicans couldn't score. Travis Snyder then scored on a 26 yard option pitch for Port Byron, then added a two point conversion. Mohawk never led after that.
The Mohicans (0-2), will head to West Canada next Saturday.
