New Hartford wins another shootout with Camden

CAMDEN, N.Y. (WKTV) - Anthony Acevedo and Joe Carcone each rushed for 229 yards and combined for nine touchdowns as New Hartford knocked over Camden 62-34 Friday night in a rematch of last year's Section III, Class A championship.
Last year, New Hartford won the teams' regular season meeting 41-31 and the sectional final 42-35. Friday's meeting started much slower with Camden scoring first and the score tied 7-7 after one quarter, but the Spartans surged ahead with 28 points in the second quarter and never looked back.
Acevedo, New Hartford's quarterback, racked up his yardage on 18 carries and scored five touchdowns while Carcone, the Spartans' star running back, gained his yards on 24 carries and scored four touchdowns. Camden got within 27-14 in the second and 41-28 in the third, but with five starters being injured in the first half including receivers/defensive backs Alex VanPelt and Jack Keil in addition to last week's loss of fellow WR/DB Holden Coon, the Blue Devils could not keep up offensively and could not get enough stops on defense.
Kevin Davis scored two touchdowns for Camden on 9-yard 1-yard runs, quarterback Joe O'Rourke threw two touchdowns and Tyler LaPlante scored the first on a 47-yard run.
New Hartford improves to 2-0 overall (1-0 Class A National) while Camden falls to 0-2 overall and league.
