JAMESVILLE-DEWITT, N.Y. (WKTV) - It wasn't quite David slaying Goliath, but in the end, it was the underdog getting the win. The Clinton Lady Warriors beat previously undefeated Canastota 31-23 to win the Class B-2 title on Tuesday. Clinton will now face Cazenovia in the overall B final on Saturday at 5:30pm at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

To say this one was a defensive struggle would be an understatement. "I knew coming in they were one of the best defenses in Section III" said Clinton coach Tom Trevisani after the game. "They've only averaged giving up 20 something points this year, I think our defense did just as well as theirs. It was a defensive battle and we came out on top with our defense."

Canastota led 6-5 after the first quarter and 15-10 at the half. Clinton's goal was to keep it close and that's exactly what they did. With the game tied at 17 after three quarters, the lady Warriors stepped up their defense once again. A 6-0 run gave them the lead for good. Canastota did cut the lead to two with under two minutes to play but Lauren Conway's steal and layin with 20 seconds to go sealed the deal for Clinton.

Kara Ladd led the Lady Warriors with 10 points while Lauren Conway and Allie Dononvan scored six points apiece. Canastota was led by Alexis Havens 10 points. Liz McGinley, who has 1000 points and 1000 rebounds for her career, had seven points.
