DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - The bottom dropped out on a promising season for Dolgeville, who fell 28-27 to Weedsport Saturday in the Section III Class D quarterfinals. The top ranked Blue Devils got within a point late in the fourth quarter, but failed on a two point conversion attempt to take the lead, when Michael Barnes was stuffed.
Dolgeville trailed 14-7 in the second half, but tied the score on a Ray Ruggerio touchdown run. The Blue Devils took a 21-14 lead on an Alex Snyder score.
But the lead was short lived, as QB Jake Darling threw an interception that was returned for the tying touchdown. After Weedsport took a 28-21 lead, Snyder scored again to pull the Blue Devils within one.
A season of so much promise came to a crashing halt for Dogleville, who lost their first game of the season. Weedsport, meanwhile, advances to meet Sandy Creek in the sectional semifinals.
