Ilion beats Frankfort-Schuyler for final playoff berth

FRANKFORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - In a win-and-you're in/lose-and-you're-out situation for both teams on Friday, Ilion clinched the fourth and final playoff berth in Class C East with a 28-20 win at Frankfort-Schuyler.

With the teams entering the matchup tied at 1-3 in league play and Section III's Class C regular season shorted to six games this season to allow for more playoff berths, the sides combined for six straight touchdowns over the first and second quarters to wind up tied 20-20 at halftime.  Ilion kept it going on the opening possession of the third quarter with a 4-yard touchdown run by Jon Treen, and after that the scoring suddenly ceased, giving the Golden Bombers the victory.

Treen scored three touchdowns--two rushing and the other on a blocked punt return--while fellow running back Shea Murphy ran for 179 yards and Ilion's other touchdown.  For Frankfort-Schuyler, Andrew Talarico caught nine passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.

Ilion heads into the playoffs with a deceiving 2-4 overall record (two of its losses were by one and three points) while Frankfort-Schuyler goes into crossover action at 1-5.
