NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Frankfort Maroon Knights came up just short in their Class C semifinal game against Bishop Grimes losing 3-2 on Thursday night.
The Cobras started the scoring just about nine minutes in on a Dave Firenze goal from Patrick Magunga. Nick Quigley added another and before Frankfort knew what hit them, it was 2-0. However with under a minute to go in the half, Leo Nizzi put home a loose ball off a corner kick to cut the lead 2-1 and give the Knights a positive vibe heading into halftime.
Second half though, Grimes made a two goal lead on a Quigley header off a corner kick. That never took the wind out of Frankfort's sails. Nearly six minutes later, Derrick Sbiroli booted a long pass ahead to Nizzi. He scored his 100th career goal to cut the lead to 3-2.
That would be as close as Frankfort would get. Grimes held off a number of chances. Frankfort ends their season 14-3-1. Bishop Grimes will face Cooperstown in the Class C final at a site and date to be determined.
