Boys Basketball: Frankfort beats Sauquoit in defensive struggle

FRANKFORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Frankfort-Schuyler boys basketball team broke a 35-35 tied with less than two minutes left in their Class C-1 Section III first round game with Sauquoit Valley Wednesday, using an 8-0 run to win 43-35. Joe Cooper led the Maroon Knights with 14 points and ten rebounds, while Derek Sbiroli added 13 and Nick Sparagna had 12 points and six rebounds. Trevor Furner had the Indians high, with 8 points.
A low scoring game all the way through, Frankfort took a 10-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Sauquoit came back to take a 22-18 lead at halftime.
The Maroon Knights went back on top 31-29 at the end of three quarters, and neither team had more than a 6 point lead until the closing moments, when Frankfort completed their 8-0 run.
The #7 Maroon Knights advance to the Class C-1 Quarterfinals Friday at Tully.
