HAMILTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Hamilton girls' long layoff didn't seem to hurt them in their playoff opener on Tuesday as the Lady Emerald Knights bashed Alexandria Bay 54-31 in the Section III, Class D quarterfinals.

Hamilton, undefeated at 20-0 and ranked No. 3 in the state in Class D, jumped out to an 18-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back against the ninth-seeded Lady Purple Ghosts.  Kyle Martin led the Lady Knights with 21 points and eight rebounds, Jess Brawn added 10 points and 10 assists, Katie Weeks had 11 points and six rebounds and Jordan Peterson grabbed 12 rebounds and scored six points.  Defensively, Hamilton forced 27 turnovers.

Hamilton will play No. 5 seed and Center State Conference Division III rival Oriskany in the semifinals at a place, date and time to be determined Wednesday morning.  Hamilton swept the regular season series by margins of 10 and 16 points.

Selena Sochia scored a team-high 12 points for Alexandria Bay, which finishes the season 9-13.
