Hamilton Girls Overtake Oriskany In Semis

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Facing a three-point deficit and its first loss of the season after three quarters on Friday, the Hamilton girls basketball team out-scored Oriskany 21-11 in the fourth to come back for a 62-55 win in the Section III, Class D semifinals at RFA.

Top-seeded Hamilton, now 21-0 and ranked No. 3 in the state in Class D, will play the winner of No. 2 Sackets Harbor-No. 3 Richfield Springs in the championship next weekend at the Utica Aud.  Schedule details are to be determined.

Hamilton beat its Center State Conference Division III rival by 10 and 16 points in their two regular-season meetings and got off to a good start in the three-match with a 10-4 lead after the first quarter, but Oriskany, the No. 5 seed, came back with a 23-17 second quarter to tie the game at 27 at halftime.  The Lady Redskins pulled ahead for a 44-41 lead going into the final quarter, but Hamilton rallied to keep its undefeated season alive.

Jess Brawn scored a game-high 26 points for Hamilton while Jordan Petersen added 17 points.

Oriskany ends the season 15-7.
