ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The NY Mills baseball team scored the winning run of their Section III Class D Quarterfinal game against Hamilton on a Justin Stevener sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning, to win 2-1 at DeLutis Field. Ed Schulze scored on the play as the top seeded Marauders advanced to Saturday's semifinals against Oriskany.
Starting pitcher Jeff Albright shook off a shaky start, in which he beaned Lucas Rhyde on the first pitch of the game, loaded the bases in the first with one out, and didn't throw a strike to the leadoff batter in the first three innings, to get the win, while striking out fourteen Emerald Knights.
Mills got the board first in the fourth inning, in a sequence that began with John Sedallah get to first on a grounder which ended up in the dirt. Sedallah advanced to third on a two-base error, then scored on an RBI single by Jimmy Fellone.
But Hamilton tied the score in the fifth, on a bloop hit by Keenan Nolan-Finkel, which scored Dan Meeks.
The semifinal game with Oriskany will again be played in Rome on Saturday at 5 p.m.
