CICERO, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Hamilton softball team fell just short of wininng a section title, falling 2-1 in the Class D final at the Gillette Road Softball Complex Monday. Mariah Gough scored the winning run with two outs in the top of the 7th on a bunt by Cheynne Bumpus. Secondbaseman Jordan Peterson made an error on the play and couldn't get it to first in time to end the inning.
The error by Peterson was a sour end to a great day for the junior, who drove in the Emerald Knights lone run, which tied the game at one in the bottom of the first. She also made a spectacular leaping catch to rob Justiss Usborne of a hit in the fourth.
Bumpus pitched a no-hitter for the win while Hamilton's Rebecca Rogers, a seventh grade sensation, also pitched complete game, giving up four hits while only allowing one earned run.
It was Hamilton's first trip to the Section III championship in four years, but for Stockbridge, it was more of the same, as they won their third straight title.
