UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Hamilton girls hadn't lead most of the game. In fact it wasn't until with about two minutes to go that they took their first lead all night. However, the lead that counted was the one at the end. Hayleigh Hanson scored at the buzzer to give the Lady Emerald Knights a 31-29 win over Poland to advance to the Class D final next week at the Carrier Dome.
In the fourth quarter with about a minute to go, Poland had taken a two point lead on a basket by Natalie Powers. Lauren Weeks would then hit two free throws to tie the game at 29. With 15 seconds left, Hamilton coach Jessica Poole called a time out.
"I told them you cannot leave anytime left on the clock and give them (Poland) a chance to score." Poole said after the win.
Katie Weeks, who led the team in scoring with 12 points, drove down the lane with seconds left. Her shot attempt was blocked but Hanson got the loose ball and put it up and in as the buzzer went off.
Hamilton will face Oriskany, who beat Alex Bay 37-17 in the other semifinal game. The league rivals meet at the Carrier Dome on March 1st at 6 p.m.
