HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Dolgeville football team proved Friday night that new Class D East rival Herkimer can indeed be beat as the Blue Devils upset the Magicians 7-6. Herkimer played most of the game without starting QB and 2012 Sports Express Player of the Year Austin Mills, who suffered a separated shoulder early on.
Dolgeville capitalized on four Herkimer turnovers in the first half, three of them fumbles and the other an interception by Jason Nastovski. But the Blue Devils managed just one score, on a three yard TD run by Nastovski, who finished the game with 182 yards on 26 carries.
Herkimer would get on the board late in the game, as Dan Appley scooped up a fumble by Eric Johnston and took it in for a score. But after a botched snap on the extra point attempt, the Magicians came up short on the conversion.
Dolgeville (2-0) now leads the Class D East standings along with Sauquoit and Waterville and will host CCS next Saturday. Herkimer (1-1)hosts Morrisville-Eaton/Hamilton next Friday night.
