ILION, N.Y. (WKTV) - Dan Mower kicked a 19-yard field goal with 16 seconds left to send Holland Patent to a wet 21-18 victory at Ilion on Friday.
With Holland Patent leading 18-12 after three quarters, Ilion tied the game with 1:19 left on a 3-yard touchdown run by quarterback Kris Klosner. But a failed extra-point attempt left the game tied, and it perhaps put less pressure on Mower's kick, which keeps the Golden Knights in second place in Class C East at 3-1 (4-1 overall) and drops hard-luck Ilion to 1-3 (1-4).
Ilion started the scoring in the first quarter on a 16-yard touchdown run by Jon Treen, who rushed for 132 yards on 20 carries. Holland Patent answered with a 6-yard rushing score by John Iselo and went ahead 7-6 on the extra point.
Ilion re-took the lead in the final minute of the second quarter by turning a Holland Patent fumble into a 12-yard touchdown pass from Klosner to Connor Morris, but the Golden Knights cut it to 12-10 with a 32-yard Mowers field goal with 10 seconds left in the half.
Holland Patent went ahead again late in the third quarter on a 3-yard scoring run by Iselo, who carried 21 times for 46 yards.
