H.S. Football: Curtis, HP spoil Ilion homecoming
ILION, N.Y. (WKTV) - In what could be the final game ever at Ilion, the Golden Bombers fell 38-30 to a Holland Patent team that is on a roll as the Class C football season comes to a close. Matt Curtis led the way for the Golden Knights, with 27 carries for 207 yards and five touchdowns.
Ilion led it 8-6 at the end of the first quarter, but Curtis put HP on top thanks to a one yard TD, his second of the game.
Tyler Brown then put the Golden Bombers back on top with a two yard TD run, but Curtis soon scored his third TD of the game, giving Holland Patent an 18-14 lead at halftime.
Curtis broke his biggest run of the game early in the third quarter, on a 73 yard TD run, number four of the game. The Golden Knights led it 38-22 until Ilion scored a TD and two point conversion with 6:36 left in the game.
But HP held on for their second straight win, the first two under head coach Rich Zacek, who's in his first year at the helm of his alma mater.
