H.S. Baseball: Errors cost Ilion vs. Little Falls
ILION, N.Y. (WKTV) - Mistakes were costly for the Ilion baseball team Monday, as the Golden Bombers committed six of them in a 6-2 loss to rival Little Falls (1-1). Tyler Brien of the Golden Bombers pitched well, striking out seven in his six innings of work, but still took the loss.
Ilion (1-1) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first, when Xavier Schafer hit a two run double to center scoring Tim Nicollette and Connor Morris.
It stayed that way until the top of the sixth, when Alex Blumberg reached on an error and Evan Davis scored, to tie the game at two. The Mounties then took the lead on a passed ball, scoring Tyler Baumeister.
Little Falls would add three more in the seventh, the first on a single by Mike Stehnach that turned into a run when the relay throw to get Corey Cogan at third was off, bringing Cogan home. Josh Martin then hit a sacrifice fly that scored Stehnach.
The final run came on a blast by Kevin Crissman that would've been a home run in many parks, but not in Ilion. Instead, the ball nearly rolled up the hill in left field, and was instead a triple that scored Davis.
