Ilion's Colburn no-hits Little Falls

By MIKE LEVIN

LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - A beautiful Friday night turned out to be a nightmare for Little Falls, as its baseball and softball team were both no-hit by rival Ilion at Veterans Memorial Park.  In baseball, Golden Bombers pitcher Dan Colburn threw his second straight no-hitter, outdueling Evan Davis of the Mounties, who struck out seventeen Ilion batters.

It was the second straight game Little Falls (6-6, 5-3 CSC D-I) has been no-hit, having fallen victim to Herkimer's Bryan McGuire.

Davis ran into trouble in the first inning, as he allowed two unearned runs to score, but then struck out eight straight and eleven of thirteen.  That is until Tyler Brien stepped into the batter's box in the fifth inning and smashed a solo home run over the wall in left-center field.  Davis gave up just three hits in the game, with Travis Murray getting the other two, along with Brien's homer.

Colburn, meanwhile, struck out eight Mounties, allowing just two baserunners in the game, Josh Martin on an error in the first and Steve Barhydt on a walk in the sixth.  Ilion improved to 7-1 on the season, 6-1 in the league.

In softball, Ilion's Samantha Giruzzi struck out fourteen in her no-hit bid as the Golden Bombers beat Little Falls 4-0.
