Treen advances to state semis

ALBANY, N.Y. - Ilion's Jon Treen continued his undefeated season Friday at the NY State Wrestling Tournament, making it to the Division II 189 pound semifinals.  He defeated Matthew Dove from Michael J. Petrides 13-3 in the preliminary round, then Letchworth's David Wooley 6-3 in the quarterfinals.  He'll meet Lansing's Ryan Todd in the semifinals on Saturday.

Three other local Section III champs competed in states, but only one is still alive, Whitesboro's Mike Sardo, in the Division I 125 pound consolation bracket.  Sardo beat Cornwall's Luke Roth 4-1 in the prelim round, but lost 8-2 to Alex Gomez of Section 11 Brentwood in the quarterfinals.  He'll meet Deuly Espinal from Grand Street Campus in the consolation bracket.  Dylan Kavanaugh of VVS and Anthony Deluco of RFA have already been eliminated.

Three other local grapplers are still alive in the consolation bracket, as VVS's Kasey Proper will compete in D-II 103-lbs, Adirondack's Pat Sullivan is still in the 119-lb. bracket and Camden's Cody Sullivan has yet to lose a second time at D-I 130-lbs.

Semifinals and consolation quarters will begin Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by consolation semis and finals.  The Championships are slated to begin at six.
