CICERO, N.Y. (WSTM) - The Oneida and Hamilton softball teams won Section III titles Tuesday at Gillette Road Park.
Oneida defeated TVL rival New Hartford 4-3, coming back from a 3-0 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Indians won their third title in six years, but first since 2010. The game was picked up in the fifth inning after it was stopped Monday night to due weather. Oneida will be back at Gillette Road Park Thursday at 5 p.m. in the regionals, against Franklin Academy of Section X.
Two other finals were contested Tuesday and both were also delayed by rain. In Class C, Little Falls, the C-1 champion, fell 2-0 to C-2 champ Sandy Creek.
Meanwhile, Hamilton beat Copenhagen 3-2 to win their fourth straight Class D title. Emerald Knights hurler Becca Rogers struck out sixteen. Hamilton will next face Huevelton of Section X in regionals. Friday at 5 p.m. at SUNY Potsdam.
