WEST WINFIELD, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Section III boys basketball tournament nearly had its second 9-over-1 upset on Tuesday, but Mt. Markham prevented it with a 66-53 comeback win over General Brown in the Class B-2 quarterfinals.

General Brown was hot throughout the first half, leading 16-12 after the first quarter and taking a 10-point lead in the second before settling for a 30-23 lead at halftime.  But Mt. Markham recovered during the break and outscored the Lions 16-5 in the third quarter to take the lead for good.

Mt. Markham, now 20-1 and ranked No. 9 in the state in Class B, advances to play No. 4 seed Adirondack in the semifinals Friday at Proctor at 7:45.

Ricky Spicer led the Mustangs with 21 points while Dallas Thomas also scored 21 for General Brown, which finishes the season 10-12.
