SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Mt. Markham boys basketball team was no match for Hannibal in the Section III, Class B-2 championship Friday night at Manley Field House as the Warriors steamrolled their way to their third straight title 83-48.
The first two minutes of the game were scoreless, then Ricky Spicer scored in the paint to put top-seeded Mt. Markham up 2-0. But that lead quickly turned into a distant memory as No. 2-seeded Hannibal went on a 22-0 run spanning into the second quarter to take control.
Hannibal, now 20-2 and ranked No. 3 in the state in Class B, advances to the B-1/B-2 crossover final for a state playoff berth against B-1 champion Westhill next week at a site, date and time to be determined. Mt. Markham, ranked No. 7 in the state this week, ends the season 21-2.
Josh Pugh led the Mustangs with 14 points while Jeff LaMont scored 20 to lead Hannibal.
The Warriors have now won three of the past four B-2 titles. Mt. Markham won the other in 2006.
