H.S. Wrestling: Cook Most Oustanding at Sammon Tourney
ILION, N.Y. (WKTV) - Laken Cook continued his unbeaten streak Saturday as the Ilion wrestler won the 126 pound title at the 38th annual Leo Sammon Tourney. Cook beat RFA's Antonio DeLuco to win 3-2 in the second overtime, and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler. Indian River won the team title, while New Hartford had the most wins, with four.
The Spartans got titles from Kelan McKenna, who beat Ilion's Tanner Cook in the 99 pound final, Dempsey King at 106, Dan Fancett at 120 and Jimmy Laurenzo at 195.
RFA had two champions, with Dandre Norman taking the 113 pound title and Josh Knapp winning the 152 pound title.
Whitesboro's Landon Slawson also won a title, at 160 pounds.
Ilion was the top local finisher, in third place, with New Hartford in fourth. Seven of the sixteen teams who competed were from the Mohawk Valley, with Mount Markham, Little Falls and Mohawk sending teams.
