New Hartford nips Notre Dame in overtime

By By BRIAN SANDLER

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - In an unexpectedly tight game, New Hartford's Ben Toach scored with 2:28 left in overtime Tuesday to give the Spartans a 1-0 victory at Tri Valley League rival Notre Dame.

New Hartford entered the game 7-1 with a No. 20 ranking in last week's state Class A poll while Notre Dame was only 3-7, and while the Spartans did dominate with 28 shots, the first 27 failed to get inside the posts.  But the 28th proved to be all that was needed as Toach scored on the run at the far post off a crossing assist from Pat Alcott.

The Jugglers only managed four shots but stayed in the game thanks to Kevin Connors' 13 saves.  Tom Gilroy made two saves for the Spartans.

New Hartford is now 8-1 both in league play in overall.  Notre Dame drops to 3-7 (3-8).
