CICERO, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Oneida and New Hartford softball teams will face each other in the Section III Class A Championship after each won semifinal games Wednesday at Gillette Road Park by 3-1 finals. The two seeded Indians beat ES-M while the Spartans knocked off top seed and two time defending champ J-D.
The Spartans scored all three of their runs in the sixth inning, with Dana Delgenio hitting a two run homer which ended a no-hit bid by J-D's Kerry Keller. It was Delgenio's sixth homer of the season. New Hartford's third run came on an RBI single by Stephanie Smith that scored Emily Acquaviva.
For Oneida, Lexi Skibitski led the way, driving in all three of her team's runs. The Indians will be making their third straight appearance in the section final and fourth in the last five years. Oneida won back to back titles in 2009 and 2010.
The Tri-Valley League rivals, who have played twice already this season with Oneida winning 9-4 and 3-2, are scheduled to play Monday at 5 p.m. back at the Gillette Road Complex.
