New Hartford upsets J-D for Class A title

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - In an amazing turn of events, the New Hartford baseball team won their first section title since 2005 Wednesday, beating J-D 3-2 at Alliance Bank Stadium in the Class A final.  Tory King and Mark Chanatry combined on the Spartans mound to hold the #4 seeded Red Rams to the two runs.

New Hartford got on the board in the first inning with two runs, the first on an RBI single hit by Cooper Brown, scoring Steve Tomaino.  Then John Calabrese grounded into a fielder's choice, but was safe at first on an error, allowing Brown to score.

J-D tied it in the bottom of the second, on a two run double by Matt Yonta.  But the Spartans took the lead right back in the top of the third, as Connor Manderson drove in Brown on a single.

New Harftord's pitching and defense held on for an emotional victory for a team that had a sub-.500 record.  Up next is a regional game at Clarkson on Monday.
