CANASTOTA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Notre Dame-Rome Catholic said in training camp that they needed to cut down on turnovers to be successful in 2011. Luckily in their season opening 19-0 win over Canastota Friday night, their four first half turnovers didn't hurt them.
The Jugglers defense held the Red Raiders at bay after each costly mistake by the offense. After an opening drive score by Colin Hulser gave ND/RCH a 6-0 lead, the team lost three fumbles and QB Colin Pastorella threw an interception deep in Canastota territory.
ND/RCH came out for the second half still up 6-0, though and took that same lead into the fourth quarter as well. In the final twelve minutes, the Jugglers got an eight yard TD pass from Pastorella to Hulser, then a 30 yard rushing TD from Ryan Cubbage to seal the win.
Cubbage had ten carries for 161 yards and the score, while Vinny Sorce added eleven carries for 168 yards.
ND/RCH will head to Herkimer for a big Class-C East showdown with the Magicians, Saturday, September 10th.
