WHITESBORO, N.Y. (WKTV) - In an exciting finish, the Whitesboro boys basketball team defeated Notre Dame 53-51 in the Section III Class A Quarterfinals Saturday night. The #3 seeded Warriors advance to meet #2 Jamesville-Dewitt in the semifinals.
Mike Sullivan led the way for Whitesboro with 20 points, while Dylan Gorski added nine, all on three pointers. Mike Gaglianese scored 19 points for the Jugglers, while Zane Smith had 13 and Joe Johnson added 10.
Notre Dame led 28-20 at halftime, but only scored six points in the third. Whitesboro led 35-34 after three quarters, but Gaglianese, playing the entire final quarter with four fouls, hit a few big shots, including one to put the Jugglers up 47-42.
But the Warriors shot lights out from three point range down the stretch, with Bradee Holstlag knocking one down to pull Whitesboro within two, and Gorski putting them up 50-48 with under two minutes left.
Johnson then hit a three for Notre Dame to make it a 51-50 Juggler lead, but the Warriors came back and won the game at the free throw line.
