Whitmeyer, VVS hold off Jugglers

By MIKE LEVIN

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Jesse Whitmeyer provided the spark for the VVS baseball team Friday, as the Red Devils beat Notre Dame 3-2.  Not only did Whitmeyer strike out eleven batters in a complete game, but took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and also drove in the go ahead run in the seventh.

The Red Devils (2-1) took the early lead on a sacrifice fly hit by Collin Laguzza in the third inning, which scored Matt Sliker.  Notre Dame (0-2) tied it in the fifth inning, on a fielder's choice hit by Colin Hulser, scoring Nick Allen.  The Jugglers took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning on another fielder's choice, this time by Colin Pastorella, scoring Zack Kesterson.

But the Red Devils came up with two runs in the top of the seventh, the first on an error hit by Tyler Mautner, scoring Sliker.  Whitmeyer hit the second, an RBI single scoring Mautner.

The Jugglers are still looking for their first win under new head coach Kevin Green.
