By by BRIAN SANDLER

ORISKANY, NY (WKTV) - A defensive battle in the first half turned into an easy Oriskany victory in the second half, as the Redskins' offense opened up after halftime to beat New York Mills 26-6.

After each side took turns stopping the other, Oriskany finally got onto the scoreboard late in the second quarter with a 17-yard touchdown run by running back Sam Blaney, putting the Redskins up 6-0 at the half.  In the second half, Oriskany broke out with two touchdown connections from quarterback Mike Gaglianese to receiver Richard Malick and went up 26-0 before the Marauders could answer.

New York Mills' lone touchdown was scored late in the fourth quarter by quarterback Matt Dziekan.

For the game, Oriskany racked up 184 yards on the ground, with three running backs sharing the main load.  Blaney rushed for 53 yards on 12 carries, Kyle Cousin rushed for 56 on 12, and Garrett Getchell rushed for 57 on seven.

The victory improves Oriskany to 2-0 in Class D East and sets up a big matchup next Saturday at also-undefeated Dolgeville; New York Mills is 0-2 in Class D East.
