By By BRIAN SANDLER

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - Proving it's not how you start but rather how you finish, the New York Mills boys basketball team overcame an ugly 22-14 halftime deficit with a 14-2 third quarter and 20-4 closing run in the fourth to beat Lyme 50-32 in the Section III, Class D-2 quarterfinals Saturday.

Sophomore Fred Russ led the Marauders with 16 points and 12 rebounds and 6-foot-7 freshman Matt Welch had nine points and seven rebounds.

New York Mills, the No. 4 seed, improves to 15-6 and advances to play top-seeded DeRuyter in the semifinals at a place, date and time to be determined Monday.

Lyme, the No. 5 seed, ends the season 11-8.
