Proctor, NYM, Waterville win titles, ND falls


SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Three boys basketball teams from the Mohawk Valley won section titles at the Carrier Dome Saturday: Proctor, NY Mills and Waterville.

For the Raiders, it's their second title in three years, as they scored the last 11 points of the AA Championship to beat C-NS 83-79.  Tyvon Reed scored 32 points and had 14 rebounds for the #2 seeded Raiders, who were playing in their fifth straight final.  Sports Express Athlete of the Week J'Von Evans added 29 points for Proctor.

In the first game of the day, NY Mills won their eighth Class D title in the last ten years, beating rival Oriskany 64-37.  Former Athlete of the Week and All-Star Nick Comenale led the Marauders, not only ranked first in the section, but the state as well, with 31 points.

Waterville won their first title since 2002, as the #2 seed in Class C beat #1 Fabius-Pompey 58-49.  Zach Sawyer led the Indians with 21 points.

In the third game of the day, Class B #3 Notre Dame cam up just short of knocking off undefeated top seed and defending champ Westhill, dropping a 63-60 decision.  Jerome Brabham had 21 points for the Jugglers, while Kevin Warmack added 17 and Joe Sullivan had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
