NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - Dolgeville opened up Class D East action Saturday with a 49-14 blowout win over NY Mills at Ben Ross Field. The Blue Devils scored 22 points in the second quarter to take a 22-6 lead at halftime, then rolled from there.
Mills, who were led out to the field by former MMA fighter Matt "The Hammer" Hamill, scored the game's first touchdown, a two yard run by former NEWSChannel 2 Ahtlete of the Week Fedor Avrusevich.
Early in the second, with Dolgeville struggling offensively, Jared Frederick ran 56 yards to the end zone. With the score tied at 6, the Blue Devils struck again, as Ray Ruggerio scored twice, once from 60 yards out and again from 75 yards to give Dolgeville their 22-6 halftime lead.
Frederick then ran back the opening kickoff of the second half 91 yards to the hole. Frederick and Ruggerio each added another score.
Dolgeville will host Waterville next Saturday in their home opener, while Mills goes to Oriskany.
