ORISKANY, N.Y. (WKTV) - The New York Mills football team held off Oriskany Saturday to take the inaugural "Maraud-skin Battle" 16-15. Week 1 Sports Express Athlete off the Week Zach Griffith threw for 173 yards and ran for a touchdown, while also completing a pair of two point conversions for the Marauders.
Oriskany started the scoring in the first quarter, as Ethan Juarez threw a 34 yard TD pass to Craig Whittaker. But Mills came right back, as Griffith threw a pass to Terry Nichols that went for 57 yards and set up a one yard TD run by Griffith. The two pointer put the Marauders on top 8-7.
Later in the first, Mills extended their lead as Tevin Pham exploded for a 44 yard TD run and with another two pointer, the Marauders led 16-7 at halftime.
The score stayed that way until the fourth quarter, when Ryan Enos threw an eight yard TD pass to Devin Bryant. A two point conversion cut the lead to one, but Mills would hang on to beat their Class D Central rivals.
N.Y. Mills (2-1) will head home for a showdown with Westmoreland next Saturday, while Oriskany (0-3) will visit South Lewis.
