ORISKANY, N.Y. (WKTV) - NY Mills picked up a huge road win Saturday, topping Class D East rival Oriskany 26-18. It's the Marauders first win of the season and pulls both teams even at 1-1 on the season, tied for second in the league.
With Mills leading 13-12 at halftime, the third quarter was a defensive struggle. In fact the only score of the frame came on defense, as Cody Mariotti intercepted an Austin Smith pass and took it back 47 yards for a score.
Smith, who passed for 214 yards and three touchdowns, put his team back into it in the fourth quarter, throwing another score to pull the Redskins within one.
But former NEWSChannel 2 Athlete of the Week Fedor Avrusevich sealed a NY Mills win with a 31 yard touchdown run. Avrusevich had 24 carries for 114 yards on the game. Joe Prilutsky added 63 yards and a score on the ground as well.
Mills will host Cooperstown next weekend while Oriskany visits Waterville.
