Hamilton Boys Soccer & V-V-S Field Hockey Advance in States; ND & Old Forge Girls Soccer Fall

By by BRIAN SANDLER

ONEONTA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Hamilton boys soccer team scored four second-half goals in its state Class D regional match with Section IV's South Kortright Saturday at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta, turning a 1-0 halftime lead into a 5-1 win.

Hamilton, ranked No. 5 in the state, was led by Matthew Broedel's goal and three assists and Dan Kraynak's two goals.  Keeper Will Keever made six saves.

The Emerald Knights, now 20-2, advance to the state Class D final four next weekend at the Hall of Fame, where they will go for their first title since 1997.  First up will be S.S. Seward from Section IX in the semifinals Saturday at 11:15 a.m.  The championship is Sunday at noon.

South Kortright, which is ranked No. 8, ends the season 18-3-1.

CHITTENANGO, N.Y. (WKTV) - In a matchup of teams that had never before been to the state playoffs, the Notre Dame girls soccer squad fell to Section IV's Marathon 2-1 in the state Class C regional round Saturday at Chittenango.

Notre Dame finishes the season 13-9-1 while Marathon improves to 17-4-1 and advances to the final four next weekend at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

A few hours later in the Class D playoffs, Old Forge lost a 2-0 second half lead and fell 3-2 in overtime to undefeated Edmeston from Section IV.

Old Forge, which was coming off its first sectional championship in 26 years, led 1-0 at halftime on a Taylor White penalty kick and made it 2-0 early in the second half when a Kerrin Ehrensbeck corner kick was kicked across the goal line by an Edmeston defender.  But Edmeston roared back with a great long-range goal by Kori Hamm and a rebound score by Emily Bliss to send it to overtime.  Bliss scored in the first overtime to put Edmeston ahead, and Old Forge was unable to answer (girls soccer overtimes are not sudden-death).

Old Forge ends the season 17-6.  Edmeston, now 21-0-1, advances to next weekend's final four at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

VESTAL, N.Y. (WKTV) - For the second straight playoff game, the V-V-S field hockey team won a 1-0 game in overtime, taking down Section IV's Maine-Endwell in the state Class B regional round at Vestal to advance to the final four.

The goal was scored by Dominique Coy 1:50 into the first overtime, and was the only shot by either team in the game.

V-V-S, now 17-3-1, will face Section VIII winner Garden City in the state semifinals Friday at Chittenango at 7:30.  The championship is Saturday at 2:00.
