Spartans hang on to top Oneida 9-8
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - It was a slug-fest at Corr Memorial Field with New Hartford hanging on to beat Oneida 9-8 on Thursday. The Spartans cranked three home runs, while the Indians countered with two of their own.
The Spartans got the scoring started in the second with a two run homer by pitcher Chandler Evans. After Oneida tied it in the third, Eric Verbickas went yard to give the Spartans a 3-2 lead, 4-2 after the inning was over. Oneida came back to take a 5-4 lead in the 4th with the Spartans tying it in the bottom half. They took an 8-5 lead in the 5th and never trailed again. Oneida did get within 9-8 in the 7th but could not take the lead.
Ryan Kramer and Nate Mallinder left the park for Oneida, who dropped to 13-6 overall, 8-5 in the TVL.
New Hartford clinches the regular season TVL East title at 10-4 finishing 17-4 overall.
