On a Saturday filled with high school regional and state games and meets all over the state, Clara Jones of Hamilton won a state title, while the Clinton baseball team advanced to the state semifinal round.
Jones won the 400 meter hurdles championship at the state Track & Field meet from C-NS, while the Warriors defeated Susquehanna Valley 3-2 in a Class B regional from OCC, an all-turf field.
Clinton scored their first run in the bottom of the first, as Andrew Taft scored on a groundout by Ian Foxton. They got two more on an error in the third. Jon Hardy gave up two runs, but combined with Andrew Hobika to hold S.V. to just five total hits. The Warriors will play next Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Class B Semifinal from Binghamton University against Section II champion Schalmont.
In Class D, Oriskany was shut down by Hancock senior pitcher Ryan Smith, who no hit the Redskins, while striking out twelve in a 2-0 win at Broome CC.
The Oneida softball team fell 8-0 to Troy in the Class A regional from Malta Rec, as pitcher Hunter Levesque pitched a two hit shutout.
