H.S. Football:Late miscue costs Oneida
ONEIDA, N.Y. (WKTV) - For over three quarters the Oneida defense held the prolific Cazenovia offense in check, but the Lakers broke through in the fourth with two touchdowns to win 18-8 Friday night. With the Indians ahead 8-3, Matt Mosack intercepted a pass at the one yard line to stop Cazenovia's momentum. But just two plays later excitement turned to horror.
Deep in their own territory, Oneida chose to pass the ball, and Mosack found his toss deflected, then intercepted by Travis Mimms in the end zone for a Cazenovia touchdown, the Lakers first of the game. A two point conversion gave Caz an 11-8 lead.
Johnny Greacen then ran in a late three yard TD run to pad the lead. Greacen finished with 53 yards. Lakers QB Jeff Hopsicker added 91 yards on 16 carries as Caz improved to 5-0.
Evan Watson was the star on offense for Oneida, with seven receptions for 85 yards and a second quarter touchdown that put the Indians on top until the fourth. Chris Chesbro added 89 yards on 22 rushes for the Indians, who fell to 3-2.
The loss also snapped Oneida's three game win streak. The Indians will host Skaneateles next Friday at 6:30 p.m.
