CHITTENANGO, N.Y. (WKTV) - Its very hard to beat a team twice in one season, let alone twice in three weeks. Oneida was counting on that as the Indians took V-V-S to overtime and beat them 28-27 on a very gutsy call in the Class B semifinals on Saturday.
With the game tied at 20 after regulation, Oneida won the coin flip and deferred to V-V-S. The Red Devils scored on a Tyler Mauntner pass to Eli Cleveland. The extra point was good to make it 27-20.
Oneida would then get in the endzone on a Matt Barlow run. However, head coach Bill Carinci talked it over with his players and they all decided to go for two and the win instead of an extra point and prolong overtime. The gamble paid off as Barlow scored the game winning two point conversion.
Oneida advances back to the Dome for the second time in three years. They will face Cazenovia for the second time this season on Sunday at 6pm for the Class B title.
